Since grewalsatinder was on holiday, he did not update the Bitcointalk forum thread with all the new updates and happenings on PIRATE project. This led to some arguments and people wanting to restart the chain. To that point, many community members had already been mining PIRATE for about a week, hence why jl777 proposed a giveaway of 250,000 PIRATE, which totaled to around 10% total circulating supply at that date/time.
Since a hardfork was planned for Pirate (Read dPoW), jl777 also suggested changes to increase the block reward halving time for miners, which would incentivize more miners to join the PIRATE blockchain network securing it with more block mining hash rate and also a change in supply to 200 million.
SHossain announces that "Notarization of private chain worked!", which was previously not the case (The tests were done on a seperate chain with the same params as Pirate called TXSCLPRT). The chain forks the next day and dPoW gets integrated. On top of that, the halving time increased by 5 and this change increased the total supply amount of the PIRATE blockchain to approximately 200 million.
The community members managed this PIRATE Giveaway process and grewalsatinder freely gave 250,000 PIRATE to 29 people on 25th September 2018 who provided their z addresses, each getting 8333.33333333 PIRATE tokens (Related to the events that took place on the 4th of September).
